Pro Pathway Experience

Video coming soonWilly is preparing the video for this section.

I have been on both sides of the pathway. I came up at Universidad Católica, played professionally in Chile, England, Spain and Belgium, and represented Chile at youth international level. Then I coached inside the academies at RCD Espanyol and the Philadelphia Union.

That means I can tell a player and a family what the next level actually asks for — not the version they read online.

The pathway is rarely a straight line. I trialled, I moved countries, I had injuries, and I learned what clubs look at when they watch a young player: consistency, the ability to take information, physical honesty and how you behave when things are not going your way.

I work with players and families on the realistic version of the plan — what to work on now, what a club will notice, what a trial actually looks like, and how to keep developing when the answer is no.

For academies and coaches, the same experience helps to build development pathways that connect youth football to the demands of the level above.
